Current events force social distancing and seeking for safety. Houseboats became a new trend among vacation seekers all around the world, especially in the US. Although the demand for houseboats rises every summer, it has become particularly popular this year and it was worth noticing.
Isolation from Coronavirus and Riots
Away from the riots and chaos of populated cities, houseboats offer opportunities to enjoy leisure among luxurious amenities, while being in isolation. It gives the chance for a short or long break, safe from the deadly virus and riots.
Why is it so?
According to data from Google Trends, there has been an estimated 64% rise in the search for ‘houseboats’ in the US, in July 2020 compared to July 2019. The interest in houseboats has gradually skyrocketed from May 2020.
A few possible reasons for the trend:
- Covid-19 Pandemic: Most countries imposed some form of a travel ban and are restricting the entry of tourists from other counties. Tourists themselves are reluctant to travel abroad, as it often poses a higher risk of catching the virus than traveling within their homeland.
- Riots and Protests: The mass protests all over the US, following the death of George Floyd have given rise to a sense of unsafety and insecurity. Thus, many are opting to spend their vacation on houseboats, far from the turmoil.
- Quarantine: Many now find houseboats to be a good option to stay in quarantine for a few days, after traveling from abroad.
